2000 Great Songs #1462: Omaha

Not to be confused with the previously-noted song of the same name by Moby Grape, this particular "Omaha" comes from currently-active Toronto indie rockers Kiwi Jr. It's one of the newer songs on the list, off their 2021 sophomore LP Cooler Returns, but pretty much instantly became a personal favorite. I love how the current crop of indie bands have been mining 80s/90s indie rock for inspiration, and this song is the perfect example, boldly seizing the middle ground between Pavement and (as the band's name suggests) New Zealanders The Clean. It's scrappy, mildly absurdist, fizzy guitar rock, and totally cool hearing that post-punk vibe thoroughly reinvigorated by the next generation.
