For all the critical slagging of the Rolling Stones' short-lived psychedelic era, I think I've hit the point where it's nearly as well-represented on this list as their classic late 60s/early 70s run. I've previously covered the flip-side of the double-A-side, "2000 Light Years From Home," so we're catching up now with "She's A Rainbow." Those two tracks are the obvious stand-outs on 1967's underrated Their Satanic Majesties Request LP, and make for at least as essential a single as the Beatles' "Strawberry Fields Forever"/"Penny Lane" from the same year. And, more so than the trippy "2000 Light Years," this one sees the Stones at their most Beatlesque, some truly melodic flower-power psych pop.
The piano trills and ooh-la-las are of their period, but the Stones (and Jagger's deft touch) elevate this far above a dated Sgt. Pepper-adjacent relic.
