2000 Great Songs #1459: Voodoo Lady

As noted previously, I mostly sat out Ween the first time around; their early MTV-era singles suggested an alt.rock novelty act that didn't seem that interesting to me. But I eventually circled back and found that I really loved a lot of their music. It's not all up my alley, but there are a few great albums and some memorable tracks (I ended up burning myself a double-CDR mix, and 160 minutes of Ween seemed about right).

1994's Chocolate And Cheese, their commercial breakthrough, turns out to be a whole lot better than I'd anticipated, incredibly varied, and for all the goofiness, there's some surprisingly accomplished and entertaining music within. I've visited the LP before, and for our second stop I'm going with the more upbeat "Voodoo Lady." Some cool guitar jangle (possibly borrowed from "Psycho Killer"), a nifty tribal beat, those silly "boogie boogie boogie" backing vocals, a wicked guitar solo, and a really amusing video. What more do you need?
