Having enjoyed some old school psychedelia yesterday, let's pivot to some 90s Elephant 6 psychedelic revivalism from the Olivia Tremor Control. Following up on some earlier recordings of the same name, "California Demise 3" appeared on their second (and, tragically, final proper) LP, 1999's Black Foliage: Animation Music Volume 1. The wonderful record, which never got quite the same love as its predecessor, is a little better produced, some polished but still colorful psych-pop songs interspersed with some studio wonkery (which I ended up editing out for my home-made remake).
This track captures both aspects of the record, a catchy baroque pop tune broken up by a bit of a dirge in the middle bridge; but the body of the song remains great.
