When Best Coast's 2010 debut LP Crazy For You dropped, it felt like a wonderful revival of all those women-fronted alt.pop bands I'd been into in the late 80s/early 90s--The Primitives, Darling Buds, Voice of the Beehive, etc. Like its predecessors, the record (and subsequent work) merges 60s girl-group pop with some post-Jesus & Mary Chain distortion & reverb buzz, unabashedly straightforward pop songs with just a little something extra to give them a more contemporary feel.
The album-opening title track is the perfect introduction to the band, delirious in its simplicity and beach-friendly summer vibes. Still a wonderful way to get everyone smiling.
