Imaginary Albums #14: Rockpile

Approaching the back end of this little walk through some of my imaginary albums, and already starting to cheat a bit, as this has more the feel of a basic mix than a proper album. Still, it's pretty fantastic, so there's that!

Rockpile were a supergroup of sorts formed in the late 70s by Nick Lowe and Dave Edmunds, two contemporaries who evolved from pub rock into new wave, both with a penchant for blending chiming power pop with more traditional strains of rockabilly, country, and R&B. Joined by guitarist Billy Bremner and drummer Terry Williams, Rockpile only put out a single album of originals under the Rockpile name, 1980's Seconds Of Pleasure. But iterations of the combo played on multiple Lowe and Edmunds solo albums between 1978-1981.

Heart Of The City pools most of the Seconds Of Pleasure LP with varioius Rockpile performances found on Lowe's & Edmunds's records, forming a modest (60-minute) double-LP that's wonderfully fun and varied.
