My Top 2000 Songs #1161: Love Is

Myracle Brah's tragically overlooked 1998 debut, the oddly-titled Life On Planet Eartsnop, is such an embarrassment of power-pop riches that you could pretty much choose any of its songs at random and be pretty comfortable tossing it onto this list. And at barely 90 seconds, "Love Is" almost feels like a rip-off, more a brief taste to whet your appetite than a complete listening experience. Still, it's the one I most easily gravitate towards, the rare track that ably earns the Beatlesque descriptor, John Lennon circa 1965 (or maybe 1967, the two-chord bridge calling to mind Sgt. Pepper's "Good Morning Good Morning") infused with 90s alternative rock energy. If we were still making mixtapes on literal cassettes, it would be the perfect song to throw on at the end of the side when there's just a little tape remaining.
