My Top 2000 Songs #1139: Good Girls Don't

A few days back, I was able to look past the questionable lyrics of "Fat Bottomed Girls" because it was delivered with such gleeful camp by Freddie Mercury. That's a lot tougher with The Knack's "Good Girls Don't," which, like a lot of 1979's Get The Knack debut, is almost comically sexist and a little gross. Hell, that was a big part of their schtick. (And don't get me started on their second album.)

Still, while not a song I'd play in mixed company today, its pop hooks are undeniable, a far more classically-styled power pop song than the better-remembered "My Sharona." And I'm not gonna claim that its horny, hormone-addled adolescent sentiments weren't totally relatable when I was 13. Not so much at 59, but nostalgia carries a lot of weight.
