New Releases: The Len Price 3

Yeah, I just shared a bunch of new-ish releases, but I stumbled across this one today and I just had to put something out there. Because, while I still find plenty of new music I enjoy, I oh so rarely find new music that has me genuinely excited. Let's put it this way: I'm dashing this off, then feeling highly motivated to head out to run some errands, solely because all I want to do is have an excuse to crank this up in the car.

Anyway, English trio The Len Price 3 have been kicking around for years, but I've somehow missed out until now. They take mod-pop inspiration from the mid-60s work of The Who and The Action, then funnel it through the punk energy of The Jam and Buzzcocks. They remind me a bit of Squire and other 80s/90s power pop acts who revel in an oh-so-English pop flair.

Misty Medway Magick is barely half an hour long, but nearly every track is an absolute power-chord banger, a hint of familiarity to every insanely catchy chorus yet still really fresh. I gave a quick preview to some of their earlier records just now, and they're a little more raw--the first couple recorded in mono for an authentic 60s vibe--but this one keeps the high-voltage energy tethered to wicked hooks.

Hell, I just hit the repeat button on "You've Changed" twice and may listen to nothing else for the rest of the week.

Not on Bandcamp, but you can get it on Amazon, probably lots of other places. Do it soon!

  1. Yeah, dig into their back catalogue. The Pictures album is a particular fave but all good. Great live too.
