2000 Great Songs #1273: It's Alright For You
Not the world's biggest Police fan, which is why we're only seeing the first Police song make an appearance deep into the 1200s. I spent plenty of time with the first three albums back in the day, but 1981's Ghost In The Machine and, especially, 1983's Synchronicity were so inescapable when I was in high school that I ended up shunting them aside, much like the classic rock monsters of the 70s.
Still, there are plenty of Police songs I like just fine, even if I rarely feel inclined to dust off an album. But why "It's Alright For You"? Dunno. Maybe because the track--off their second LP, 1979's Reggatta de Blanc--seems to capture the punk spirit of their earliest days, when drummer Stewart Copeland had just a little more say in the music, while being given just enough of the sheen that showed up once they started recording long-players. A nice reminder that they started off a pretty fun band before they became that really serious Sting-led project.TV lip-sync:Juliana Hatfield (from her 2019 Police tribute):Death metal cover by Purity (oh my)...Cover by the Pin Ups:See the entire Top 2000 to date in a sortable database!
