2000 Great Songs #1259: Red Light Song

Scottish pop band Blue were one of the great lost (or at least, very good lost) bands. 1973's self-titled debut in particular was a perfectly pleasant collection of melodic ballads and mid-tempo power pop full of gentle jangle and swoony harmonies, a nice fit alongside the likes of Badfinger and The Raspberries. Album opener "Red Light Song" is a personal fave from the LP--though my preference for this one may just be that it's the first thing I heard when I cued up the record and was unexpectedly hit with a rush of long-hidden gems. Squint just right, and you can hear the roots of future Glasgow acts like Teenage Fanclub and Cosmic Rough Riders
