2000 Great Songs #1270: Heart Is A Drum

I don't listen to Beck's records much, a home-made compilation of the big hits and other stray tracks pretty much all I need. But I do love 2014's Morning Phase, where he fully embraced his inner Brian Wilson, weaving a song cycle of quiet, ethereal tunes drenched in sunshine and harmonies. "Heart Is A Drum" is the standout for me, gentle acoustic finger-picking and multi-tracked vocals, with just enough studio flourish to give it a warm, enveloping sheen. About as beautiful as it gets.
