2000 Great Songs #1280: Sugar Daddy

Nothing world-changing here, just a sweet little power pop track I randomly came across some years back and has somehow stuck with me. NJ/NY-area band The Churchills released a few albums in the late 90s and early 00s, somewhere between radio-adjacent alternative rock and power pop. I'm guessing I heard "Sugar Daddy," off 2002's Big Ideas, on a pop compilation, or maybe at one of those Tower Records listening stations near the tail end of the chain's existence, and liked it enough to buy the album. And it's one of those insanely catchy power-pop tracks where you end up throwing the song onto a buncha mixtapes and rarely listen to the rest of the LP (though it isn't bad at all).

Anyway, nice tune, loads of jangle and clever lyrics with the obligatory drop-dead chorus. These days the band itself may be best remembered for randomly showing up on Meadow's t-shirt in a couple Sopranos episodes, but if I were still making mixtapes for friends, I'd be gladly throwing this one in.
