2000 Great Songs #1256: Please
It gets a bit confusing, all those late 60s bands called Kaleidoscope, but having previously visited the UK band, this time we're talking about the US Kaleidoscope. The Southern California act blended traditional folk and jazz with trippy psychedelia (and may be best known for including late guitarist David Lindley, who went on to a long solo career and worked with everyone from Jackson Browne to Warren Zevon to Crosby/Nash). "Please," off 1967 debut Side Trips (when they were still The Kaleidoscope), is a pretty acoustic folk-rock track that, even if you've never heard it before, immediately conjures the Summer of Love vibe, of a piece with tracks like the Youngbloods' "Get Together" and Moby Grape's "8:05."Lovely cover by psych act Eclection:
