2000 Great Songs #1336: Tell Me A Story

Following up on yesterday's theme of obscure "story"-entitled songs from obscure 1970 albums, here's "Tell Me A Story" by Morning. The Los Angeles-based band had a couple largely-ignored records in the early 70s which fall into my obsession with long lost 70s rock, mostly forgettable but peppered with occasional gems. Their 1970 eponymous debut was a mix of twee sunshine pop, and earnest back-to-roots rock that falls into The Band/Grateful Dead/CSNY camp. This is one of the latter, a perky tune that feels like a lost Eagles song stripped of the calculation and classic rock overplay--just catchy, slightly country-adjacent rock & roll. Nothing here to change the world--my love of the song is partially built on its obscurity and the joy I get from lost gems--but it's the kinda track that makes you wonder how it totally escaped notice at the time.
