2000 Great Songs #1329: Slide Away

While the Dream Syndicate have always been just a little too jagged and dark for pop music, "Slide Away" (off 1986's Out Of The Grey) comes pretty darn close. With its nifty guitar riff and catchy hooks, and overall jangly sound placing it smack dab in the middle of the 80s college radio scene, the upbeat rocker sounds like a hit in a world where Television and R.E.M. set the commercial benchmarks.
