2000 Great Songs #1320: I Saw An X-Ray Of A Girl Passing Gas

Now, to be clear, the Butthole Surfers are not a band I recommend to many people. Because, c'mon, it's the Butthole Surfers. But this track off 1988's Hairway To Steven is about as close as they got to mid-80s college radio jangle pop, albeit still a track full of psychedelic strangeness and the expected scatological/creepy lyrics. It's ostensibly titled "I Saw An X-Ray Of A Girl Passing Gas"--again, this is the Butthole Surfers, not R.E.M.--though the original record sleeve had no song titles, opting instead for cryptic illustrations on the label, so technically this little ditty, track #3, was titled like so:

Anyway, it's not gonna win a lot of converts, but I liked it at the time, and it was nice having a Surfers song I was (relatively) comfortable spinning during my college radio show without having the FCC stopping by the station.
