2000 Great Songs #1393: Time In Common

A lot of my favorite bands from the past decade get my attention by mining the 80s and 90s indie rock of my formative years and giving it a bit of a modern spin. Australia's Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever (unwieldy name, that) are among several bands which have revived the sound of nearby New Zealand, and, particularly, Flying Nun label legends like The Clean and The Bats. "Time In Common," from their 2018 debut Hope Downs, perfectly marries that classic indie guitar band sound with just a touch of contemporary polish. It moves at a frenetic pace, the sort of song that kinda makes you wish it would last just a little longer when it abruptly ends. Instead, you've got barely two minutes of jangly joy that leaves you wanting more.
