Imaginary Albums #7: Pink Floyd

Saucerful Of Syds imagines how a second Pink Floyd record might have sounded had founding frontman Syd Barrett not succumbed to mental illness and/or acid following 1967's legendary Piper At The Gates Of Dawn. I've shared this one previously, but briefly:

With Barrett on his way out, 1968's Saucerful Of Secrets only had one Syd-helmed song; still a fine album, but the work of a very different band than the debut. This remake constructs a more natural-sounding follow-up record by adding a few Barrett-helmed singles and outtakes. It's also expanded to double-LP length with various other singles and leftovers from the early years, creating a smoother bridge to what would follow. It's an interesting work, and incredibly varied (maybe too much??) given the myriad songwriting contributions of Barrett, Gilmour, Waters, and Wright.

My CDR version includes an interesting merger of Barrett's solo track "Golden Hair" with "Set The Controls...," courtesy of an online blogger's slightly different LP recreation; I obviously couldn't replicate that on Spotify, but other than that the playlist below captures the imagined album:
