Imaginary Albums #4: Liz Phair/Rolling Stones

One of my goofier creations, but also one I still find most fun to spin. As explained when I first shared this a few years back, Liz Phair has described her groundbreaking 1993 debut Exile In Guyville as a sort of thematic response to the Rolling Stones' 1972 masterpiece Exile On Main Street. And while that may be more the case in principle than execution, the ordering of the tracks on Guyville does seem to sonically match Main Street; and I've personally always considered her (woefully underappreciated) guitar playing as a home-brewed indie rock interpretation of Keith Richards.

So for Exile On Guyville Street, I alternated Stones/Phair tracks, with some tweaks to the running order for purposes of flow; I also deleted a chunk of songs from each to help it fit onto a single CDR. And, yeah, I think it works surprisingly well, a colorful conversation between two unique artists at their best.
