My Top 2000 Songs #1136: All Sexed Up
100 Flowers started out as Urinals, one of the original late 70s Southern California punk bands, before changing their name and rounding out their sound a bit. Their self-titled 1983 debut is a blend of minimalist post-punk, jagged and arty, confrontational and silly--shades of Gang of Four and Wire and Minutemen. I can't say I've listened to the album in a million years or so, but I still get a kick out of "All Sexed Up," a tangle of skittish guitar over a surprisingly danceable funk beat, erotic and profane with a whiff of danger. It's one of those "oh, so that's what you mean by Jittery White Guy Music" songs, and makes you wish you could spend the weekend hanging out in the sort of club where they'd play "All Sexed Up."Live 1987:And just last year!
