Imaginary Albums #5: The Who

The Who probably have a deeper well of completed non-album tracks than most artists I know. (I'm of course setting aside Bruce Springsteen, who in 2025 alone has released about 7 new albums comprised of holdovers found in the vaults.) So, like most fans, I've constructed a few imaginary Who albums out of these cast-offs. A personal favorite is Who's For Tennis (previously discussed here). This was apparently the proposed title for a planned 1968 album--between 1967's The Who Sell Out and 1969's Tommy--which never materialized.

Though information on the aborted LP is scarce, I went all-in, culling most of the non-album tracks recording during this period (many of which got an official release on the 1974 Odds & Sods compilation and, later, various Sell Out reissues). The result is a pretty great double album, arguably as excellent as any official Who album, mostly in Townshend's mid-60s mod-pop style but also a few covers and other oddities.
