Imaginary Albums #3: David Bowie
David Bowie's years in Berlin (roughly 1976-1978) with collaborator Brian Eno and producer Tony Visconti resulted in three of his finest albums. But both Low and Heroes (from 1977) mix Bowie's vocal songs with some more Eno-dominated instrumental ambient pieces; and while I adore Eno, I find the records hard to enjoy from start to finish--I'm either in the mood for rock or ambient music, not both. Meanwhile, 1979's Lodger featured a return to more straightforward vocal rockers, albeit with a couple tracks I don't love. (It also suffered from some sludgy production; for this project, I used the more recent Visconti remix.)
But fold these three together, focusing on the vocal tracks (save for the opening cut, which serves as an introduction), and you've got arguably Bowie's finest hour of music, a perfect late 70s double album.
For this one, I didn't really tweak the original songs or do any cross-fading, so my personal CDR can be perfectly replicated on Spotify. Enjoy!
