2000 Great Songs #1311: Maps
Like a lot of the NYC guitar-based alt.rock bands that were hyped as the Next Big Thing around the turn of the millennium, I like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs just fine. As with Interpol, and the Strokes, and LCD, I liked a lot of the songs here and there, turned 'em into mixtapes for myself, but didn't exactly spend a lot of time with them.
Except for "Maps," off their 2003 debut Fever To Tell. Damn, what a freakin' monster of a song. The jittery guitar, rolling percussion, and of course Karen O's absolutely stunning vocal delivery. Definitely one of those drop-everything-and-pay-attention songs.
