2000 Great Songs #1296: Tally Ho!

How many times can I keep going back to that astounding Compilation of early singles by legendary New Zealand indie band The Clean? (As it turns out, 4--and maybe 1 or 2 more to come.) "Tally Ho!" was their first single, way back in 1981, and as the first wave of American post-punk indie bands were exploring everything to thrashing rock to poppy jangle, the Clean smashed it all together with a Farfisa organ and came out with the best 60s garage band song since "96 Tears." It sounds like a pirate anthem of sorts, a call to arms for... something. A whole lot of nonsense, but with such conviction! More fun than you can shake a stick at.
