2000 Great Songs #1216: You're So Clever

Bay Area indie pop band Orange Peels never got a ton of traction, which is a real shame. Though I guess I kinda get it--their brand of buoyant jangle is on the sunshine pop side of the spectrum, owing more to artists like Burt Bacharach and the Millennium than harder-edged power pop bands (see also, e.g., Ladybug Transistor, Essex Green), so not exactly in vogue these days. But the gentle, guileless nature of the music can be deceptive, at least on "You're So Clever," a snarky little put-down from 2000's second LP, So Far. I dunno, something about that juxtaposition has always struck a chord with me. (You can check out their delightful catalog of music on Bandcamp.)
