2000 Great Songs #1200: TV Party
Look, I'm a mostly-retired suburban empty-nester in his 50s... am I listening to much Black Flag these days? No, of course not. And even back in the day, they were never really my thing. Still, arriving on campus, and the college radio station, back in 1984, hearing Black Flag for the first time was quite the experience. Sure, I was familiar with 70s punk, the Ramones and Pistols and Clash, but then I heard "TV Party" (and the rest of 1981's Damaged) and it was like, ok, cool, that's a totally different way you can do this!
Plus, I can't count how many times we'd get high and watch Repo Man in the dorm, and the movie solidified the song's place in the pop culture universe.
