My Top 2000 Songs #1189: That's All For Everyone

Here's a second track from Fleetwood Mac's 1979 opus Tusk, which I've always enjoyed as Lindsey Buckingham experimental solo album interspersed with various Fleetwood Mac songs I tend to skip. While a lot of Buckingham's tracks on the double-LP are sparse, almost post-punk lo-fi recordings given just enough production sheen to make their way onto a big-budget album by one of the biggest acts on the planet, "That's All For Everyone" is at the opposite extreme, all multi-layered atmospherics which make the song itself almost secondary.

Like most of his Tusk contributions, this one is arguably undercooked--Buckingham has never been a terribly verbose lyricist, most of songs offering about half a song's worth of lyrics, getting away with it by virtue of having Fleetwood Mac as his backing band--but offers just enough substance to support one of the band's loveliest, most blatantly Brian Wilson-inspired performances. It's a loving wash of harmonies and bells, a Pet Sounds revival for the cocaine-gorged 70s.

Alternate version, more a proper song, lighter on the atmospherics:
