2000 Great Songs #1497: Trust Me

The late 80s saw a brief trend in women-fronted indie pop bands, acts like the Primitives, Darling Buds, and Transvision Vamp. Voice Of The Beehive had slightly more diverse origins, British musicians (including some former members of Madness) fronted by two sisters from California. I was a big fan of their 1988 debut Let It Bee; while they released a few singles from the LP, I preferred the non-single deep cut "Trust Me." It's got a bouncy Bo Diddley beat, and for some reason I loved the line: "He thinks she doesn't know; women always know." Not the most culturally significant record, but caught me in that immediate post-college looking-for-anything-new phase.
