2000 Great Songs #1471: Back In Flesh

As I've probably mentioned before, eccentric new wave pioneers Wall Of Voodoo were a bit too offbeat to ever be in regular rotation in these parts. But they had a couple songs I adored back in the 80s, tracks I'd frequently spin on my radio show or throw onto mixtapes, and which I thorough associate with that era of my life. "Mexican Radio" is the most obvious one of these; but the arguably B-52's-indebted "Back In Flesh," off 1981 debut LP Dark Continent, is right up there.

Creepy, film noir surf guitars and minimalist drums with intermittent synth fills back a delightfully goofy call-and-response between odd duck frontman Stan Ridgway and... also Stan Ridgway, I think. I don't wanna go! (You must go!) I'd rather go bowling! (The lanes are closed!)
