2000 Great Songs #1472: It's Nice To Nice

If you took the catchiest tracks from XTC, late 60s Beach Boys, and Elephant 6 revivalists like Apples in Stereo and the Minders, and threw them into the blender, you'd almost certainly end up with Pugwash's delightful 2005 single "It's Nice To Be Nice." The fantastic Irish indie pop band are almost so perfectly on-the-nose in conjuring an I-must-have-heard-this-before gem of baroque pop that it almost feels like the sort of homage/parody manufactured by XTC side project Dukes of Stratosphear. But that's fine, because it's just so freakin'... well, nice.
