2000 Great Songs #1431: Down By The Sea

Not for the first time this month, we're hitting an extended groove that serves more for a massive jam session than a proper song. This time, it's Bay Area neo-psychedelia band Wooden Shjips (see also Moon Duo and Rose City Band), from their lo-fi 2009 second album, Dos. The ten-minute "Down By The Sea" is an insistent, unchanging 3-note bassline anchoring some reverbed, beamed-in-from-outer-space vocals and headphone-friendly noodling, a happy medium between Krautrock and Yo La Tengo that you kinda wish would go on forever. Turn on & space out, my friends!
