2000 Great Songs #1422: The Kirwan Song

I really enjoy the music of Swedish indie act The Amazing, who have about a half-dozen albums blending mellow psychedelia, dream pop, and freak folk. Of course, such music is better suited to quiet backdrops for a lazy weekend morning or settling evening dusk than to active listening, so it's hard for me to pick out specific songs for attention. But I do love "The Kirwan Song," the opening track on their eponymous 2009 debut. As the title suggests, the track is a tribute of sorts to former Fleetwood Mac guitarist Danny Kirwan, based around the music from his gorgeous instrumental "Sunny Side Of Heaven" (off 1972's Bare Trees, his final appearance with the band), with hushed vocals wafting above. 

Of course, even without that context, it's a beautiful soundscape, a fine excuse to get lost in some ambient psychedelic pop for six and a half minutes.
