2000 Great Songs #1227: Crash Years
I don't have a lot to say about The New Pornographers' "Crash Years," off 2010's Together LP. It's just one more in a string of stand-out NPs tracks randomly peppered throughout this list, one incredibly catchy yet unique gem after another. The band's twin weapons are perfectly deployed here--Carl Newman's supernaturally wonderful baroque pop hooks, pooled with Neko Case's alluring, over-achieving vocals--which alone would be enough for a great song. But they one-up themselves with perhaps the best use of whistling in recent memory.Live on Fallon 2010:
