My Top 1000 Songs #987: Breakfast Cereal

[I've been writing up my Top 1000 songs on a daily basis--you can see them all in descending order by hitting the All My Favorite Songs tag.]

Another one of those songs which, for me, exists wholly as a creature of my 80s college radio experience. LMNOP were essentially one guy, Stephen Fievet, making home-made tapes and records which somehow ended up at the station, and were a steady presence on my shows for a brief moment in time. "Breakfast Cereal," off 1986's Elemen Opee Elpee, was an instant favorite, a goofy, dorky little home-concocted pop song which stands firmly alongside the likes of They Might Be Giants (whose debut LP was released the same year). Unabashedly fun and inadvertently profound and hopeful.

Can't say I kept up with the band/Fievet after that, or even played the album again after the novelty war off, though the song still pops up on shuffle play now and then and immediately I'm feeling 20 and kinda drunk. So that's cool. (And while I haven't spent a lot of time with it, some of the act's music previews the lo-fi bedroom pop vein that would later be milked by various Elephant 6 bands.)

Couldn't even find it on YouTube (aside from a demo version), so I had to upload it myself. Hopefully it works.
