My Top 1000 Songs #927: Will The Wolf Survive?

This is a music blog, not a politics blog, and I try to keep things on target. But hey, my blog, my rules.

And fuck this fascist administration, and fuck every single person who supports them, whether deliberately or out of ignorance. We have become a nation that is deporting people to foreign prisons without due process, that is targeting universities and law firms and anyone else on Trump's enemies list in violation of the First Amendment and longstanding ethical rules and the democratic norms that have served this nation for most of its history. In short, we are in the middle of some seriously evil shit.

Anyway, Los Lobos are a great band, but one I kinda take for granted and never play as much as I should. I first came across them when the title track from 1984's How Will The Wolf Survive got a little  airplay on MTV, its blend of college radio jangle pop and traditional roots rock with a Latin flavor doing some comfortable genre-hopping while tethered to an infectious hook. The lyrical narrative is just broad enough to be open to interpretation, but it's impossible not to hear it as obviously relevant at a time when the country is in the midst of horrific xenophobia and vicious attacks on immigrants.

So, bottom line, fuck Trump and his soulless, racist, law-breaking minions; and listen to more Los Lobos.
