My Top 1000 Songs #687: Long Island

[I've been writing up my Top 1000 songs on a daily basis--you can see them all in descending order by hitting the All My Favorite Songs tag.]

The universe can never have too many relentlessly charming crush songs. This upbeat blast of crunchy noise pop from That Dog, off 1997's excellent alt.pop platter Retreat From The Sun, warms the heart's cockles with its delightful young-love couplets. It was one of those songs (and records) I'd play in the late 90s when I was in the mood for something light and buoyant but still off the beaten track--see also, e.g., Matthew Sweet, Apples in Stereo--and it still gives me all the tingles.

"You're pretty dreamy for a boy from Long Island, you should come and see me on my western horizon. Seems as though our paths were never meant to meet, but I just look at you and know you're pretty sweet."
