My Top 1000 Songs #598: The Frug

Going way back to Rilo Kiley's self-titled 1999 EP (later renamed The Initial Friend) for this adorable little trifle. The band expanded their musical palette over the years (as Jenny Lewis has continued to do as a solo artist), writing more sophisticated genre-hopping material, but there's just something special about this packet of sweetener. Maybe it's seeing young Jenny in the video, or just the song's affectionate manic pixie dream girl depiction. The song was used in some indie film I never saw, and it totally has the sound of a song written for an indie film you never saw. "I can hate your girl. I can tell you that she's really pretty. I can take my clothes off; I cannot fall in love."
