My Top 1000 Songs #787: Start Again

[I've been writing up my Top 1000 songs on a daily basis--you can see them all in descending order by hitting the All My Favorite Songs tag.]

Despite this never-ending Top 1000 endeavor, I grew up an albums guy, not a singles guy. I like hearing music in context, ok?

But, still, there's always gonna be that one great song out there that gets you excited, even if you never listen to another note from the artist. And don't get me wrong, 2014's Lights Out, is a perfectly decent record, tasteful indie pop from Bishop Allen, a couple Ivy League grads (the wrong Ivy League school, but still, we're cool) with a rotating supporting cast who can pen a pretty tune. But the opening track, "Start Again," is one of those songs you'll hear that instantly makes you want to sit down and throw together a mixtape just so you can pass it along to a friend. It's got that mid-'10s indie vibe that sounds like it was written for a musical interlude in a young hipster streaming tv show, but that's ok, cuz it's just so damn catchy.
