Cool vibes here. "Past Lives," from Brooklyn indie rockers DIIV's 2012 debut Oshin, is an intriguing hybrid of atmospheric dream pop and upbeat indie jangle, a sort of updating of the Cure's brand of goth-pop and, maybe, a more psychedelic version of Real Estate. The vocals and music all blend together behind a pleasant wash of reverb. Oshin is fun, but I strongly recommend the band they split off from, Beach Fossils, whose first album is a perfect synthesis of surf rock/lo-fi with post-punk, and contains my 2nd favorite song of all time, 'Sometimes'. However, pretty much everything released by Captured Tracks is worth checking out.
