My Top 1000 Songs #527: Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap

[I've been writing up my Top 1000 songs on a daily basis--you can see them all in descending order by hitting the All My Favorite Songs tag.]

In case it's not obvious by now, I'm not a big hard rock guy. (I've been called out for largely skipping the harder, more metallic edge of the classic rock spectrum; get over it, people.) But it's impossible not to get a kick out of some of the stand-out tracks from AC/DC's Bon Scott years, sort of a guilty pleasure of mine, I suppose. Three chords, no fuss, and Scott's distinctive fuck-it-all wail. The title track off 1976's Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap was probably the first AC/DC track I heard back in my early FM dial explorations, and while it sounded nothing like the songs that tended to get my attention, it's obviously catnip for a hormonal pre-teen.

I generally avoided the kids at school in the black AC/DC concert t-shirts, the ones who congregated in the hallway reeking of cigarette smoke, glaring threateningly at us nerds; but I'd still find myself singing "Dirty Deeds" under my breath as I walked by.
