My Top 1000 Songs #241: Over You

[I've been writing up my Top 1000 songs on a daily basis--you can see them all in descending order by hitting the All My Favorite Songs tag.]

I realize I can be pretty verbose with a lot of these songs.

This isn't one of them. I just really like it, for no particular reason (well, no particular reason aside from it being an insanely catchy little number).

And I know that early Roxy Music is the cool Roxy Music, while for a lot of fans this was the beginning of the end, with Roxy sounding a lot more like the backing band for another Bryan Ferry solo project. And, yeah, those early albums (particularly the first two with my hero Eno) are weird and groundbreaking and unpredictable and all that, and I do love 'em, whereas I can't say I spend much time with their seventh (and penultimate) LP, 1980's Flesh + Blood, where this one appeared. But if I'm making a mixtape for someone, and I've already used "More Than This," I'm going with "Over You." Just a wonderful, sultry new wave pop song, the most basic of 3-chord tunes yet still chic and sophisticated.
