My Top 1000 Songs #759: Kodachrome
[I've been writing up my Top 1000 songs on a daily basis--you can see them all in descending order by hitting the All My Favorite Songs tag.]
Sorry, not much to say about "Kodachrome," the single and lead-off track from Paul Simon's second solo LP, 1973's There Goes Rhymin' Simon. It's one of hundreds of perfectly fine songs I used to hear on classic rock radio, neither spectacular nor bothersome, just a solid old-school classic rock song... yet for some reason I can't quite put my finger on, the song's always had just a little something extra for me. Maybe it's the wonderful cynicism of that opening line which caught my attention as a pre-teen just getting into rock music and spending hours with my radio on awaiting revelation ("When I think back on all the crap I learned in high school, it's a wonder I can think at all"). Also--damn, that production snap! Just sounds wonderful.Live 2012:Also... nice cover from Bright Eyes' Conor Oberst:
